Rooted in the interwar design vocabulary of Antwerp’s Art Deco ateliers (c.1930–1940), this leather sofa reflects the Streamline Moderne turn within Continental decorative arts - where upholstery, architecture, and industrial form converged. The continuous channel-tufted envelope, softened scroll ends, and low timber stance correspond to the streamlined salon seating produced across Belgium and Northern France in the years between the Paris Exposition of 1925 and the late-1930s transition toward modernist restraint. Antwerp’s furniture workshops - serving both domestic townhouses and export markets through its historic port - favoured precisely this synthesis: sculptural upholstery, compact urban proportions, and polished hardwood feet.
