While court furniture of the period favored gilding and upholstery, regional ateliers across Burgundy adopted cannage for its breathability, practicality, and quiet elegance, particularly suited to domestic interiors.

The bedstead’s fluted uprights, rosette blocks, and gently arched rails derive directly from the classical language revived during the reign of Louis XVI, itself influenced by Greco-Roman antiquity.
