Period Inspiration:
The Kensington House Chesterfield Chaise is grounded in the upholstery traditions of late-Victorian London, c.1870–1890, when deep-buttoned leather seating defined the interiors of townhouses, clubs, and private libraries across Kensington and Belgravia. Its fully tufted back and arm of equal height follow the canonical Chesterfield form attributed to 19th-century English cabinetmaking and upholstery workshops serving the metropolitan elite.
The extended chaise seat reflects the Victorian preference for reclining furniture suited to reading rooms and drawing-room repose, while the continuous buttoning across the base rail and scrolled end preserves the structural integrity typical of hand-tied upholstery. Nailhead trim and turned bun feet reference the practical yet dignified finishing methods used in British club furniture of the period.
Upholstered in full-grain leather intended to develop patina over decades, the piece maintains historical proportion, low stance, and enveloping comfort consistent with authentic late-Victorian Chesterfield chaises produced for London residences and gentleman’s chambers.
