Period Inspiration:

The Lancaster Reading Chair takes its name from the English city that gave rise to Gillows, one of the 18th century's most influential furniture-making firms, and carries forward the club chair silhouette their workshops helped popularize: deep-set scrolled arms, a back set proud of the arms rather than tufted flush to them (the detail separating a true English library chair from a Chesterfield), and turned, tapered legs finished with a Georgian bun foot. Brass nailhead trim, hand-applied along the arms, apron, and back, traces to cuero claveteado, the Spanish studded-leather tradition later folded into English Georgian and Victorian club chair-making. 

The hide itself is hand-finished in a two-tone, antiqued cognac-to-oxblood palette using a pull-up technique that lightens naturally along every curve, giving a brand-new leather club chair the character of one already decades into a well-read life. Inside, a plush loose seat cushion pairs with a fixed, channel-seamed back cushion for deep, correct lounging support, built for long afternoons with a book rather than a quick perch. Set on a solid hardwood frame, this vintage-style leather armchair suits a home library, study, den, reading nook, or living room. A quietly confident English club chair, for readers who take their furniture as seriously as their books.
