The Montparnasse Art Deco Leather Club Chair

Period Inspiration:

In the smoke-hazed cafés of 1920s Montparnasse - home to La Coupole, Le Dôme, and La Rotonde - a new silhouette took hold: low-slung, deep-seated, unapologetically modern. The Art Deco club chair, its barrel back rising in one unbroken curve and its arms rolled down without a trace of exposed wood, became the seat of choice for the painters, poets, and expatriate writers who filled the quarter through Les Années Folles. This leather club chair revives that form.

Hand-built on a solid wood frame, the Montparnasse club chair is upholstered in full-grain leather, hand-cut and hand-stitched panel by panel. The waterfall seat front, a hallmark of Art Deco upholstery, carries an unbroken line from cushion to floor; block feet in dark-stained wood stand in for the turned leg of earlier periods, true to the form's modernist restraint.

A vintage-style leather armchair for the library, study, or reading corner - sold singly, or paired as flanking club chairs.
