Period Inspiration:

Named for the Left Bank quarter that pulsed through 1920s Paris - home to Lost Generation writers and lamplit brasseries like La Coupole, opened in 1927 in Art Deco style - the Montparnasse Nocturne Art Deco Loveseat carries that after-dark glamour into a two-seat velvet loveseat built for modern living.

Its raked, wide-shouldered back and angled arms channel the geometric confidence unveiled at the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, the fair whose title later lent the style its familiar name, Art Deco. Exposed side and back panels wear a dark, tightly-striped wood veneer in the spirit of Macassar ebony, the Sulawesi hardwood prized above nearly any other by 1920s cabinetmakers, finished to a deep, lacquered shine with edges that catch the light in crisp architectural lines.

Every upholstered seam is finished in hand-set brass nailhead trim, a detail lifted from 1920s upholstery workshops. The seat, back, and arms are wrapped in a rich wine velvet fabric whose pile shifts to a luminous rose wherever the light rakes it - the natural chatoyance of fine velvet. A substantial plinth base grounds the silhouette in a low, sculptural stance: Art Deco-inspired furniture in wood, veneer, brass, and velvet, for a living room, reading nook, or boutique hospitality lobby with a taste for Jazz Age Paris.
