The Calcutta Regency Salon is an elegant six-seater dining ensemble shaped by the artistic dialogue that flourished in early 19th-century Calcutta, the cultural and administrative heart of the Bengal Presidency. During this period, British Regency design - defined by its neoclassical geometry, turned legs, and restrained ornament - encountered the virtuosity of Bengali and Anglo-Indian artisans, who introduced canework, tropical hardwoods, and refined joinery into the furniture vocabulary of the empire.

The oval dining table bears all the hallmarks of the Regency aesthetic:
— Turned and reeded legs, modelled after classical columns and architectural antiquity
— Baluster turnings, characteristic of late Georgian design language
— Floral corner rosettes carved in low relief, echoing Regency neoclassical motifs
— A warm hardwood top - reminiscent of the teak, rosewood, or padauk favored by Calcutta workshops for their durability and expressive grain

The chairs, with their woven cane backs and seats, stand as the defining contribution of Bengal’s craft tradition. Canework - light, breathable, and perfectly suited to the subcontinent’s climate - became a signature element of Anglo-Indian furniture and was widely sought after by British households across the Presidency. The gently curved arms and turned legs reflect Sheraton-influenced silhouettes while retaining the unmistakable imprint of local carving schools.
