Period Inspiration:

The Ballygunge Colonial Turned Post Bed takes its name from one of colonial-era Calcutta's most storied garden suburbs - a quarter of wide verandahs and walled estates, home to the city's colonial and Bengali elite from the 18th century onward. This four poster bed carries that same character into solid teak: the great workhorse timber of Raj-era furniture, valued above European hardwoods for resisting the swell and shrink of Bengal's humid seasons, finished here in a rich walnut-toned polish. 

Four substantially turned posts - vase-and-ring balusters rising to full ball finials - anchor a headboard and footboard each crowned with a serpentine, scroll-eared crest rail, a detail found on documented Anglo-Indian and Dutch-Ceylon colonial beds of the period. This is genuine colonial furniture design vocabulary, not a diluted approximation with hand-turned posts, and a slatted platform base built for durability, airflow and support. Fitting for British Colonial, Anglo-Indian, Raj-era, and plantation-style interiors.
