Period Inspiration:
In the royal apartments of Fontainebleau, where Louis XV's menuisiers first perfected the sinuous grammar of the Rococo interior, the daybed was not furniture - it was theatre. This piece, hand-crafted in solid teak by master craftsmen in the Anglo-Indian workshop tradition, faithfully continues that language across three centuries and two continents.
The form is a classic Louis XV lit de repos: twin serpentine ends of symmetrical height, their crests curling into scrolled volutes, enclosing a deep mattress platform supported on a traditional slatted teak base. Each end panel is filled with cane panels divided by a central carved teak stile - framed within gently curved surrounds that swell and taper with the characteristic mouvement of the Louis XV hand. The apron below runs in a continuous scalloped undulation, rocaille in spirit without being literal, giving the base a lightness that the cabriole legs below amplify: four slender, outward-sweeping forms that taper into scrolled feet, lifting the entire mass off the floor with effortless grace.
Finished in a warm walnut-toned teak, the frame achieves what the great Parisian menuisiers always sought - weight that reads as weightlessness. A piece for the considered interior.
