Imperial Vermilion Dragon Cabinet - Ming Lacquer Tradition

Period Inspiration:

Rooted in the lacquerware traditions of the Ming dynasty (1368–1644), this commanding red cabinet is finished in the style of the imperial cinnabar-red lacquer reserved for the furnishings of China's highest courts. Each panel is hand painted using the classical gilded painting technique, depicting celestial dragons ascending through clouds and crashing waves - a motif long associated with imperial power, cosmic order, and the Son of Heaven. The twin confronting dragons on the front doors follow the canonical shuang long xi zhu composition: two dragons in dynamic opposition around a flaming pearl, symbolising the eternal balance of cosmic forces. 

Solid Teak construction is anchored on a carved apron base with raised dragon relief, supported by cabriole-style lion-paw feet - a hallmark of Ming palatial furniture. Antiqued brass butterfly hinges and a circular ruyi cloud-collar lock plate complete the hardware, faithful to period fittings documented in Qing imperial inventories. The interior reveals three full-depth shelves finished in the same lacquered red - pristine and capacious. A rare union of scholarship and splendour, equally at home in a collector's gallery or a living room of distinction.
