Rooted in the disciplined vocabulary of late 18th-century French neoclassicism, this Louis XVI bergère reflects the refined output of Parisian workshops - particularly those of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine - during the reign of Louis XVI.

Departing from Rococo fluidity, the form is architectonic: a rectilinear seat rail, crisply defined rosette blocks, and fluted, tapering legs articulate a return to antique order inspired by Greco-Roman precedent.

The bergère profile is enveloping yet measured, with scrolled arm terminals resolved with restraint rather than flourish. Upholstered in hand-finished black leather with individually set brass nailheads, the chair introduces a material gravitas that complements its structural clarity - an evolution of traditional textile upholstery into a more contemporary, yet historically coherent, interpretation.

The subtly arched back and balanced proportions speak to the goût grec movement that dominated Parisian interiors in the 1770s–80s, where symmetry, proportion, and line replaced ornament as the primary language of luxury.
