Period Inspiration:

The PJ Modernist Leather Armchair draws from the architectural furniture language developed for Chandigarh in the 1950s, where design was governed by structural clarity, material honesty, and civic utility. While not a direct reproduction of a documented model, the chair reflects the ethos associated with Pierre Jeanneret and the broader modernist programme initiated under Le Corbusier.

The exposed solid wood frame - defined by its rectilinear geometry and visible joinery - anchors the composition in the principles of post-independence Indian modernism. Unlike earlier European precedents, Chandigarh furniture emphasized durability and climatic suitability, resulting in robust yet visually restrained forms.

The upholstered leather seat and back represent a contemporary evolution of the original cane typologies, introducing a deeper level of comfort while preserving the essential architectural silhouette. Cylindrical padded armrests soften the otherwise disciplined framework, creating a measured interplay between rigidity and ease. Its stance is grounded, its proportions deliberate - designed not as ornament, but as functional modernism with enduring presence.
