The Østerbro Modernist Leather Sofa draws from the restrained domestic modernism that shaped Copenhagen’s residential districts in the postwar decades, particularly during the height of Danish cabinetmaker production in the 1950s. Østerbro, characterized by rational urban planning and bourgeois apartments, became a natural setting for furniture that balanced proportion, material honesty, and quiet refinement.

This sofa reflects that lineage through its architectural envelope arms, elevated solid wood tapered legs, and removable seat and back cushions - features consistent with Scandinavian functional modernism rather than earlier decorative traditions. The clean horizontal seat plane and restrained silhouette align with the principles exhibited at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild exhibitions, where craftsmanship and structural clarity were paramount.

Upholstered in full-grain Italian aniline leather, the surface is intended to mature visibly, developing a patina consistent with traditional Nordic leather upholstery. The raised frame preserves lightness of mass, a defining attribute of Danish mid-century design between 1945 and 1965. A composition rooted in postwar Scandinavian modernism - measured, architectural, and enduring.
