Drawing its structural language from the English Regency aesthetic- marked by sweeping curves, disciplined silhouettes, and restrained classical revival- the chair simultaneously embraces the artisanal cane-weaving traditions perfected in the Indian subcontinent and Ceylon.

The distinctive flared crest rail, a hallmark of colonial workshop interpretations of Regency design, frames the chair with an elegant outward sweep, evoking both a ship’s prow and the architectural lines of Anglo-Indian bungalow furniture. The hand-woven cane back and sides, executed in the time-honoured hexagonal pattern, speak to the skill of indigenous craftsmen whose mastery of rattan transformed European forms into something climatically suited for tropical life: airy, breathable, and enduringly comfortable.
