This club sofa belongs to the refined strain of Copenhagen Art Deco, a distinctly Nordic interpretation of the international style that rejected excess in favour of proportion, material integrity, and architectural clarity. Attributed to Frits Henningsen, the piece exemplifies the Danish cabinetmaker tradition at its most disciplined: a rectilinear hardwood frame carefully enclosing deep, hand-upholstered leather cushions, with softened internal curves that temper the geometry without decorative excess.

Unlike French or American Art Deco, Danish Art Deco remained rooted in classical restraint. Here, the emphasis lies in structure rather than surface - the visible wood acting as a framing device, the leather held taut and uninterrupted, the proportions calculated for visual calm and long-term comfort. The sofa reflects Henningsen’s resistance to machine aesthetics, favouring instead a quiet modernism shaped by joinery, grain, and touch.
