Fashioned in richly figured teak wood, the stand displays the clarity and restraint characteristic of the Hepplewhite–Sheraton transition: attenuated turned legs, balanced drawer tiers, and a broad, unembellished writing surface that speaks to a period in which ornament bowed respectfully to proportion. The commanding swing-glass, framed in a gently scrolled and chamfered mahogany surround, pivots between reeded uprights, allowing the sitter to adjust the angle in accordance with natural light, as was customary in Georgian dressing routines.
