This teak and leather swivel armchair represents a canonical form of late-nineteenth to early-twentieth-century office seating, closely associated with commercial and financial interiors in New York and other Anglo-American business centres. Chairs of this type furnished banks, law offices, brokerage houses, and executive rooms during the period when Wall Street emerged as a global financial axis.

The chair is constructed in teak and pure leather, chosen for its durability and resistance to wear in professional environments. The vertical slat back provides structural rigidity while allowing slight flex, a functional solution widely adopted in office furniture of the era. Broad, curved arms terminate in padded leather rests secured with brass studs, combining comfort with restrained ornament. The generously proportioned leather seat - also studded - was intended for long hours of clerical or managerial work and designed to acquire patina through sustained use.

Mounted on a central swivel column with a four-legged base and castors, the chair reflects the growing demand for mobility and efficiency in early modern offices. This configuration predates later tubular or industrial designs and belongs firmly to the transitional phase between Victorian solidity and twentieth-century functionalism. The green leather upholstery, typical of institutional and financial settings, offered both visual sobriety and practical concealment of wear.
